Colorful crosswalk brings art, safety upgrade to Fairview

A colorful new crosswalk is bringing art and a safety upgrade to Anchorage’s Fairview neighborhood.

The Fairview Community Council and NeighborWorks Alaska teamed up on the project near 12th Avenue and Hyder Street.

The new asphalt artwork is paired with flexible traffic posts, to slow traffic and make the area safer for people walking and biking.

Lindsey Hajduk with NeighborWorks Alaska says similar asphalt art projects have been completed in other Alaska communities, providing information that can help the Fairview project.

“Asphalt art projects have been done in a few other communities across Alaska. So we got some good information, good data, and we’ll see how it does in our climate,” Hajduk said.

Most of the work on the Fairview project is expected to be completed this week, with some touch-ups possible in October.
